Senior Technician
Get paid to pass on knowledge and skills, and receive funds to lower the cost to the event hosting the training. It's a win-win, no matter which way you spin it.
The application process is designed to be completed by the senior technician offering the training. Follow the steps below to apply.
There are two different application methods. This one is the simplest and most flexible, but if you have a particular event and it is a little way off you can also make an event application, which allows a higher budget.
With this simpler method, you will apply as a technician and will be pre-approved to run one or more trainings, without being tied to a specific event or student. When you complete the training, just fill out a report and both you and the event hosting the training will receive a payout for each training report. You can train multiple students at once, but the rate per student decreases if you teach multiple students at the same time.
Create a Technician Profile
Before you can apply for grants, you must have a technician profile on LiveVictoria.com
If you don't have one already, Use this link to create a profile
Your profile can include your work history, event credits, albums or videos you’ve mixed, and general background information.
If you are training a specific mentee, they should create a profile as well
Apply for Teacher Approval
This step could actually happen as part of submitting your initial application, but we've included as a second step since it's best if you've fleshed out your profile before applying.
Edit your technician profile, and so long as the following conditions are met, it will pop open a couple fields to allow you to apply. The conditions are:
- Your services include: Sound Technician
- Your experience level is set to "Expert"
Once those are met, you'll see new fields added. The first will ask you if you want to apply and the second will ask you for a brief blurb on why you'd make a good teacher.
Fill those out, and confirm that you agree to the conditions and your application is in the system. We should be able to get to it within a couple weeks.
Find Mentees
If you don't already have a learner in mind, here are some ways to find one:
- Make a post in our Opportunities section offering training. We've found there are lots of people willing to learn.
- Browse our directory of beginner techs and reach out to them.
- Email [email protected] and we'll see if we can help match you with someone.
Note that your trainee will need to have their own sound tech profile in the system, so make sure they create one.
Provide Training
If your application is selected, we will let you know, and then you can proceed to the training.
When providing training, please:
- Ensure the mentees receiving training get direct hands-on experience with the opportunity to get their hands on the controls.
- Prepare a lesson plan in advance so you have a clear plan for the training.
- Observe how your mentee(s) handle the experience, so you can provide a simple report.
Report and Get Paid
Once the training is complete, please email a brief email report to [email protected]
Please follow our guide for creating a training report, but the basics are:
- The date /event of the training
- A summary of what the training entailed
- A summary of how the trainee(s) handled the training, including strengths and areas for improvement for next time
- A recommendation on next steps for the mentee's training, if any.
Once we have received the report, we will make a payout via e-transfer to you, as well as to the event presenter for the event hosting the training.
