Sound-Tech mentorship @ live events
a progression to mastery with our apprenticeship micro-grants.
The Victoria Arts Promotion and Presentation Society (VAPPS) with support from the City of Victoria’s Music Strategy Fund, is launching a new initiative aimed at training new sound technicians and increasing sound literacy in our arts community.
The goal is to incorporate mentorship and training opportunities into existing community events. A series of micro-grants will be provided to compensate experienced technicians for their time, while also reducing the overall cost for event presenters who host training opportunities.
Each grant will be up to $400, and 50% of that money will go to paying the technician running the mentorship, and the other 50% will go to support the event presenter hosting the training.
We are especially trying to support:
- Young techs.
- All ages events
- Events in new or underutilized spaces.
- Situations where training will increase the sustainability of events long term.
The application process is handled via an application system on our flagship event and resource directory: LiveVictoria.com. The tech providing the training requests funding and a jury of local technicians and event presenters will adjudicate and allocate funds on a rolling basis until funds run out.
How to Get Involved
The process is different depeing on your role, so we've split this into 3 categories, choose the one that represents your situation best.
